Spreedsheets and Spreedsheets of Data...

One of the issues that arise in working with a partner is how we write and organize. I (Tiffanie) like to be organized. Ok, sometimes that works and others... not so much... but I love my spreedsheets. I have spreedsheets for many of my stories about... everything. Kingdom names and leaders, important people in certain places... the list goes on and on.

My favorite is a spreedsheet I did near the start of writing Ruins of War. I listed all of the main characters on the top, and all of the important events and dates on the left. Then I calculated out how old each person was during each event. This was important because species age different in our world.

It took me over a week and MULTIPLE hours of calculations and screw ups to get right. The whole time I'm doing it, Kayla's telling me how pointless it was. She's not big on spreedsheets or keeping track of data that way. Secretly I think she's not into the time it takes to make them.

Once finished though, it has been a very useful tool, and one that Kayla uses just as much, if not more, than I do.

The moral of the story, sure... sometimes planning and organization takes a lot of time, but in the end... it's worth it.

Usually.
